Introduction
‘Born in the cloud’ technology refers to products that were built from scratch for the cloud. Being cloud-based is an intrinsic part of the product’s architecture and user experience in this case. With cloud technology becoming increasingly interwoven into all areas of our digital lives, it is important that it is fit for purpose and serves the user well. Something that has not been designed for use in the cloud can be described as being ‘adapted for the cloud’. Software that has been adapted for the cloud would have likely been originally designed for local use, and modified at a later date to make it compatible with use in a cloud environment. These two concepts may sound similar in nature but there are some crucial differences that are helpful to be more aware of.
What does born in the cloud mean?
As previously mentioned, born in the cloud technology indicates software that has been produced from scratch with the intention of being based in the cloud. This differentiates it from other non-cloud-born software in that the overall user experience and user interface design has been crafted for being easily transportable and translatable across platforms.
The benefits of this are many, although most primarily an increased efficiency in handling and accessing content. One of the key qualities of cloud based tech is that storage is not restricted to localised machines and needing to share files or information manually. This attribute is crucial in speeding up procedures that are normally drawn out by now antiquated obstacles such as clunky localised file storage.
What does adapted for the cloud mean?
Technology that has been adapted for use in the cloud post-production might seem similar enough in concept to it’s born in the cloud successor, although this is an incorrect assumption.
It is not uncommon for software that was originally designed for localised use to fall seriously short when it comes to providing the level of flexibility and agility that more specialised products can provide. This is usually because of the simple fact that they were simply designed for a different purpose. The process of adapting pre-existing software to a high standard of operation in a new field is a complex task, and it is normal for there to be elements that are neglected in the transitionary phase for one reason or another.
Summary
Here at BI Data Intelligence, due to our extensive experience with cloud computing and its development in recent years, we understand the need for creating smooth transitions into the cloud when using software that was not explicitly built for such a purpose.
To remedy this we recommend that you utilise software products that were built from the ground up and designed specifically for use within the cloud. Sysynkt is a true born-in-the-cloud ‘XFMS’; extended finance management system.
Sysynkt also has unlimited user licenses, eliminating the common user-based cost barrier. Instead of being based off o f the number of users, Sysynkt’s pricing is based off of transaction volumes, meaning that ultimately you only pay for what you actually use.
If you are interested in what born-in-the-cloud Sysynkt can do for your SunSystems, then please get in touch with our team. We welcome the opportunity to assess your organisation’s needs and show you how Sysynkt can improve your operations.
